Bolt Hunter Mobile App

Information We Collect Through the App

When you use the Bolt Hunter mobile app, we may collect or process the following categories of information:

  • Device connection information, including Bluetooth-related device identifiers, device name, connection status, battery status, firmware version, and camera connection status.

  • User-configured device settings, such as trigger settings, intervalometer settings, camera assignments, notification preferences, and other app preferences stored on your device.

  • Event and session data generated by the Bolt Hunter device and app, including lightning event history, waveform or sensor-related event records, timestamps, trigger counts, and related session information.

  • Diagnostic and performance data, including app errors, firmware telemetry, device diagnostics, performance anomalies, and troubleshooting information.

  • Optional location information, only when you enable features that save bolt event locations and your device permissions allow location access.

  • Local network and Wi-Fi connection information used during firmware update workflows when the app connects directly to a Bolt Hunter device over a local network.

  • Notification preferences and notification history stored locally on your device to support app alerts.

How We Use App Information

We use information collected through the Bolt Hunter mobile app to:

  • Discover, pair with, connect to, and control Bolt Hunter devices.

  • Configure device settings and assigned camera settings.

  • Display device status, battery level, firmware version, and camera connection status.

  • Store and display lightning event history and related event data.

  • Support firmware update workflows over a local device Wi-Fi connection.

  • Send local notifications and in-app alerts for lightning detection, low battery, movement alarms, signal loss, camera connection issues, interval completion, and similar device events.

  • Diagnose bugs, app errors, firmware issues, device communication failures, and performance problems.

  • Improve app reliability, device compatibility, firmware behavior, and product performance.

  • Support optional location-based event logging when you choose to enable that feature.

  • Comply with legal obligations and protect our rights, users, and services.

Bluetooth, Local Network, and Device Access

The Bolt Hunter mobile app uses Bluetooth to discover, pair with, and communicate with Bolt Hunter hardware devices.

The app may also use your device’s local network or direct Wi-Fi connection during firmware update workflows so your phone can connect directly to a Bolt Hunter device and transfer update files.

This access is used for product functionality and is not used for advertising.

Location Information

The app may request location access for two reasons:

  • to support Bluetooth and Wi-Fi-related device workflows where the operating system requires location permission; and

  • to save bolt event locations if you enable that feature.

Location collection for event-location saving is optional and user-controlled. If you do not enable that feature, the app does not intentionally save bolt event locations for that purpose.

Diagnostics and Telemetry

If telemetry or diagnostic sharing is enabled in the app, Motion Horizons LLC may collect and process app and device diagnostic information, including:

  • device identifiers or app-specific identifiers;

  • device serial-related metadata;

  • firmware version;

  • error reports and stack traces;

  • device telemetry and anomaly reports;

  • lightning session or event data;

  • performance and reliability information.

This information is used for diagnostics, troubleshooting, product support, reliability monitoring, and product improvement. It is not used for targeted advertising or cross-context behavioral advertising.

Local Storage on Your Device

The app stores certain information locally on your device to provide core functionality, including:

  • selected Bolt Hunter devices;

  • assigned camera information;

  • app settings and notification preferences;

  • saved event history and cached event data;

  • optional saved bolt event locations;

  • recent notification history.

This locally stored information remains on your device unless removed by you, cleared by the app, or deleted when you uninstall the app, subject to normal operating system behavior.

Third-Party Service Providers for the App

The Bolt Hunter mobile app may use third-party service providers to support app functionality, diagnostics, and cloud processing, including:

  • Firebase / Google Cloud services for telemetry, diagnostics, and related backend processing.

  • Apple and Google platform services for notifications, app distribution, and device-level platform features.

  • Other service providers reasonably necessary to operate, maintain, secure, and improve the app.

These providers may process information on our behalf in accordance with their own terms and privacy practices.

Data Sharing and Sale of Personal Information

We do not sell personal information collected through the Bolt Hunter mobile app.

We do not share personal information collected through the app for cross-context behavioral advertising.

We may disclose app-related information only as necessary to:

  • provide app functionality and backend processing;

  • work with service providers acting on our behalf;

  • comply with law, regulation, legal process, or valid governmental request;

  • protect our rights, users, devices, or services.

Retention of App Information

We retain app-related information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including to:

  • provide app functionality;

  • maintain event history and device settings;

  • support diagnostics and troubleshooting;

  • comply with legal, tax, accounting, warranty, and regulatory obligations;

  • resolve disputes and enforce agreements.

Retention periods may vary depending on whether data is stored locally on your device, transmitted to our backend systems, required for support purposes, or required by law.

Your Choices

You may be able to limit or control certain app data practices by:

  • disabling optional telemetry or diagnostic sharing in the app settings;

  • disabling optional bolt location saving in the app settings;

  • managing Bluetooth, location, notification, and local network permissions through your device settings;

  • contacting us to request access to or deletion of backend data we maintain, where applicable and subject to legal obligations.
